SPECIAL NOTE FOR PARENTS:The video embedded in today's post contains effusive amounts of swearing in certain parts. Please don't watch with children present unless you've previewed and approved!
Today's post is way off-topic, but, as some of you may know, I'm a huge fan of Mr. Show and suffered from terrible depression for the entire period following its sudden cancellation and the release of the DVD box set of all 4 seasons. It wasn't all that long between the two, I'll admit, but it was really really hard on my fragile psyche ;) Check out this link for our post featuring another Mr. Show sketch called "The pre-taped call-in show." It's just as funny, if not funnier, and much more family-friendly :)
I hope you enjoy this video. I can't watch it without, at least, laughing on the inside. It runs a bit long, but, if you stay with it, you won't be disappointed.
Here's hoping you're having a happy and healthy Sunday :)
Today's topic (embedded at the end of the post) is, yet again, Chuck Norris. The video below is from "The Best Damn Sports Show Period," and linked to on the incredibly funny ChrisLawson.net.
Enjoy the video and follow the link trail above. Not much Linux and Unix related stuff (except for one post entitled Linux Programmer or Saddam Hussein! , which may offend some readers other than myself), but packed with tons of hilarity. Check it out. Something on ChrisLawson.net has to make you laugh :)
Well, this last weekend of sleep deprivation and work has finally caught up with me. It's at moments like these that I realize I'm almost 41 years old. Having two kids doesn't make me feel older, but my job can do it every now and then ;)
In that spirit, I'm putting up another excellent animation from YouTube that begins the saga we showcased in our Sunday post on Animation vs. The Animator. I got a lot of great feedback from that (although the credit goes entirely to the animator, Alan Becker, who's work is linked back to in all references here, as I always try to make sure I properly attribute others for their original work).
Hope you enjoy this one as much as I do, too. I'm going back to bed as soon as I drink my weight in water ;)
Cheers,
, Mike

Here's a little something to make you smile on the eve before you begin working all weekend :)
This video (which can be found in its original location on YouTube) is both awkward and hilarious. It took me a while to start to chuckle, but this guy's startup sound is one of the most subtly obtrusive things I've ever heard.
And it really goes over well in the library ;)
Enjoy!

I found the following video on a site I'd never seen before called Funny Or Die which hosts a series by the name of "Yell For Help With Stewie Bronson."
If this doesn't make you laugh, you may be dead inside. Or, maybe it's not your sense of humor ;) Give it a shot and check it out. At worst, you'll die knowing that you wasted those entire five minutes :)
Hey there, Hope your Saturday is getting off to a good start :)
For this week's attempt to find even more Linux, Unix and/or computer-related humour on the web, I ran across an entertaining 4 minutes of video called "Unix: What the heck is it?" It's attached to this post, below, but is also available on OrienteeringPro's YouTube Page.
I ended up downloading the video and converting it from flash to AVI, since no embedding code was available. I'm assuming it's okay to put it here, on this blog, with attribution and a link-back since sharing (on YouTube) for this video was set on and encouraged. If I'm mistaken and this video is your property, please contact me (via the email link at the top right of every page) and I'll be happy to take it down and replace it with a blue hyperlink (Not quite as enticing, but probably more economical ;)
NOTE FOR FOLKS WITH VERY LITTLE TIME ON THEIR HANDS: The funniest part of this video starts about 3 minutes and 5 seconds into the playback. Listen for: "But, you may ask, when will I ever need to use a Unix system?" It's a scene from a blockbuster hollywood movie most of us probably remember (even if we don't want to ;) and is yet another illustration of why computer usage in films can make you nuts if you're unable to suspend your disbelief to the extreme ;)
If the video is a bit choppy, I apologize. You can view it in its original format on OrienteeringPro's YouTube Page if it begins to annoy you.
NOTE: This post may contain some adult content. For about 5 to 15 seconds, you may be exposed to material that will violate the purity of your virgin soul!
This Sunday's post has almost zero to do with Linux or Unix, but does have to do with the cubicle lifestyle and using your work computer for non-work-related purposes. I thought this video was probably the most relevant, with regards to actually involving computers, but, from what I've seen, the entire Power Loafing series is pretty entertaining and definitely worth watching at work if you can get away with it ;)
Here's hoping this video doesn't garner me the dreaded Google Warning Screen. The video below should ask you to confirm that you're over 18. If you aren't and you click the button that indicates you are, your IP address will be recorded and the entire contents of your smut-ridden browser cache will be emailed to your mother ;)
Enjoy the off-color humor and check out the rest of the Power Loafing series, if you feel like it. It has more to do with the cubicle-work lifestyle than computers themselves, but is pretty enjoyable and funny, all in all.
Here's a little something quirky to start the weekend off. Yes, it "is" yet another spinoff on the ubiquitous "PC Mac" Commercial-"PC Mac Linux"-jokes, but it's got a neat little twist. You'll especially dig it if you're a big "South Park" fan. I'm in and out on that show (likes vs. dislikes equals no opinion on it whatsoever ;), but I still thought this video was pretty clever.
You can find the original video at WTDMusic.com's South Park site. The site has a few other things on it that I found pretty amusing. Considering the day I've had, this page may very well be hilarious ;) Check it out to make up your own mind. The day you start absorbing other people's opinions as your own is the day you stop enjoying all that life has to offer. It's for this reason that I not only read "the classics" and watch "fine cinema," but also insist on reading "trashy novels" and watching "Straight-To-Video B-Movies." Like they say: To appreciate the best, you must be well acquainted with the worst (I'm paraphrasing. I think I read that in an important book once. Although it's entirely possible the idea came from some pulp garbage like Cocaine Blues ...Believe or not, I actually got that novel as a birthday present once. I highly recommend buying it and never ever reading it. You'll be saving yourself, and someone else, the utter disappointment and possible heartache involved ;)
Here's hoping you enjoy the "South Park" Linux Joke and have a great Saturday :)
This week's trolling for laughs went fairly well. I find that some jokes are timeless on the Internet (What if MS built a "Name Of Something/Anything Here," and the like). Although, if you just continue to follow the flow, you'll eventually end up somewhere that could get you fired if you check it out at work ;) This week, I ran into a great site called UberGeek. And, while I'm one of those guys who has to constantly fight the urge to smack everyone and anyone who uses that term to describe someone who's either risen above Cro-Magnon intelligence or happens to be good at what he, or she, does, I really like this site despite the fact that it includes that word in the title (and, for me, it's always worse when the bestower of the title actually thinks I might consider it a compliment. Obviously, we haven't all been reading the same dictionary ;)
I've actually given this whole phenomenon some consideration over the years and I've always thought it would be fun to, one day, turn this whole "geek/nerd glorification complex" over on itself and reflect it back on the rest of society. I actually wasn't an official "geek" until I turned 26 or 27 and decided I'd actually buy my own computer so I could play Solitaire without having to lug around that unwieldy deck of cards ;) Perhaps that's why I don't care for the term. I'd always felt is was derogatory and was glad no one referred to me in that way. I, still, sometimes find myself feeling a little embarrassed for folks who actually embrace the term as it's applied to them (Who wants to work on the "Geek Squad?"). When I was a little kid growing up, all the way through my mid 20's, nobody ever called me a geek. I considered it a negative term during that period of my life, as well, and never used it to describe any individual that I had the slightest amount of respect for.
What I propose is that, on an agreed-upon date, we begin an experiment by referring to each other in as humiliating a manner as possible (torturing the white male of the species, exclusively, during the testing, as is only fair, since they get dibs on everything else -- I'm a white male, by the way, so please refrain from becoming any more offended than you already are ;). "Regular" men (whom we now may refer to as "guy," "dude, "pal," what-have-you) will henceforth be referred to as "b1tches." Phrases such as "I'll be back in a few; I'm gonna go grab a bite to eat with these b1tches," "What's up, b1tch?," and "Hey, bitch, could I borrow a couple bucks until tomorrow" will become standard immediately. If you refer to any "b1tch" as a "friend," "fellow man," "co-worker," etc, you will be subjected to the shame of a constant and omnipresent delusion that everyone else doesn't think you're "cool." When people start complaining about feeling degraded by the terminology, we'll politely remind them that we mean "b1tch" in a good way. They should feel empowered about being deemed "b1tches." They should wear that dubious distinction like a badge of honor. There'll be a lot of crazy "b1tches" running around frothing at the mouth for a while, but eventually, they will conform and somehow manage to rationalize feeling good about being the best "b1tches" they can be ;)
I seriously doubt this experiment will change the "b1tch-geek" dynamic, but you never know. It's worth a shot. Worst case, you'll get to call a lot of people something that would normally guarantee you a visit to the ICU, mean it whole-heartedly, and not suffer any repercussions. In the initial phase it will be highly recommended that you publicly identify your fellow "b1tches", as often as possible, in the form of a standard greeting. Everything from an enthusiastic "Hey, b1tch. What's up?" to a simple, "b1tch, " coupled with the universally-understood man-nod, should do it. Kind of like when doctor's introduce themselves. "Doctor." "Doctor." It will eventually become second nature.
But, hey, enough about my issues with pent-up-rage ;)
Enjoy the embedded game and be sure to check out UberGeek's main site (or go directly to the Penguin Blood Ninja Fiasco page if Google strips the code out or blocks the redirection). There are plenty of other videos you can get to from the Penguin Blood Ninja Fiasco page, as well. Some are funny, one is actually serious and very touching ( A neat roto-scoping technique wrapped around a guy's mother recollecting how she and his father first met and her struggle to cope with his death. Possibly an exercise in catharsis for the animator ) and there are a few that I can only describe as humorless and disturbing (and, my inclination is that they were supposed to make me giggle).
Yesterday's video humor entry was fairly well received, so I figured I'd put out the only other one I've kept track of, today. Of course, I take no credit for the material I'm presenting (as I didn't take any credit for yesterday's video). I try to do as much as I can to attribute the funny stuff I find for the weekends to the correct people and or corporations. Everyone deserves credit for their work, so I try to make sure that they (whomever they may be) get their propers. The only thing I take credit for, in these humor posts, is for writing the convoluted and confusing copy that precedes and/or follows the best parts ;) I've only actually miscredited one source so far (that I know of) and changed my post accordingly once I was notified. As always, if you notice that something posted on this blog is incorrect, needs proper attribution or disagrees with your stomach, please email the blog using the "Send me a comment" link at the top right of every post (and at the bottom of most).
Today's submission is somewhat of an oldie, too. I saw this a long time ago, I think before I even started this blog and it has just recently come back into my sphere of attention. Since it's not only an oldie, but also a goodie, I thought those of you who've never seen it before might get a kick out of it.
The original source of the video (in-lined below) can be found at the "Something Awful" web site. Check out the entire site for even more potential laughs :) If you do find something truly awful over there, be sure to direct all disparaging remarks to them, but please let me know about it so I can enjoy it (...I mean, check it out) myself ;)

This weekend's comedic gold is quite a bit older than I would have thought. I feel like I've missed out, although I'm glad that someone finally mailed this link to me :) This is a simple (although a bit long at around 10 minutes) video that is absolutely hilarious. If you've ever done any kind of computer administration (and maybe if you've been on the other end of this debacle) it's entertaining stuff. The voices have been "chipmunked," but not to protect the innocent/guilty, since there's a cast list during the credits at the end. I'm thinking this thing was probably twice as long and the distorted voices are from a speedup of the entire video. No matter how it plays, this is a killer humor :)
Below is my "ripped" version from the Web Site itself. I'm keeping in line with their no-rip policy by including the credits. They don't mind if their product gets distributed, as long as people like me don't claim to have produced it themselves. That's only fair. I'm sure some work went into this one:
Once, you're done watching, check out The Web Site Is Down, where you can see a much better quality version of this, and goof around a bit. They have one page where you can log on to a fake computer and it gives you no end of wisecracking command line returns.
NOTE: When you find the online Linux box and login (click the "desktop" link at the top right of the main page), be sure to "Reboot it!" 3 times. You'll catch some video and there are a few easter eggs you can find directly from there.
I've also included a link to this mini slowed down version of a part of the video, so you can hear their real voices.
I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did. Have a great Saturday :)
