More Fun With Google On YouTube!

Happy Friday,

Before I blow town to avoid a pending arrest warrant (or am I just going on a regular family vacation? ;) I put together a few fluff posts so I don't have to worry too much about any mistakes I may have made.

Today, check out a few secret images of Google Earth, How to do the Google Chuck Norris hack and some new hidden Google tricks - also embedded below (except the Google Earth video, which has embedding disabled by request).

More Funny Computer Animation: Sleep Dep Wednesday

Hey There,

Well, this last weekend of sleep deprivation and work has finally caught up with me. It's at moments like these that I realize I'm almost 41 years old. Having two kids doesn't make me feel older, but my job can do it every now and then ;)

In that spirit, I'm putting up another excellent animation from YouTube that begins the saga we showcased in our Sunday post on Animation vs. The Animator. I got a lot of great feedback from that (although the credit goes entirely to the animator, Alan Becker, who's work is linked back to in all references here, as I always try to make sure I properly attribute others for their original work).

Hope you enjoy this one as much as I do, too. I'm going back to bed as soon as I drink my weight in water ;)

When Stick Figures Attack: Hilarious Computer Animation

Hey there,

The work never ends. Thank God lots of other people have the time, creativity and good-will to share some of the hilarious and expert animation they do.

I found this bad boy on YouTube.com and, even though it has nothing to do with Linux or Unix, it does satisfy that Anti-Windows funny bone and is actually worth watching of its own merit.

Did I mention that it's part of a series? I guess I just did ;) Check it out. It's incredibly funny :)

Funny Linux Video: Battle Of The Startup Sounds

Hey There,

Here's a little something to make you smile on the eve before you begin working all weekend :)

This video (which can be found in its original location on YouTube) is both awkward and hilarious. It took me a while to start to chuckle, but this guy's startup sound is one of the most subtly obtrusive things I've ever heard.

And it really goes over well in the library ;)

Star Wars Vs. Star Trek: Some Slightly Off-Topic Humor

Happy Sunday to everyone,

Hopefully you're still asleep while you're reading this (????) I guess, kind of like I am while I'm writing this ;)

This Sunday, I stumbled upon this goofy, but fun, video on YouTube. It's an HQ mish-mosh of Star Trek and Star Wars. Actually, pretty clever.

I, for the record, am a bigger fan of the original Star Trek, since I watched it as a kid. Then, as a 20-something (into a few questionably-legal past-times ;) I fell in love with it again, mostly because of the bad sets, and blatantly stereotypical characters. You had a womanizer, a grumpy old man, a soulless intellectual and a raging drunk, just to get you started. You can't make up T.V. like that ;) (????)

Unix - What Is It? More Linux/Unix Humor

Hey there, Hope your Saturday is getting off to a good start :)

For this week's attempt to find even more Linux, Unix and/or computer-related humour on the web, I ran across an entertaining 4 minutes of video called "Unix: What the heck is it?" It's attached to this post, below, but is also available on OrienteeringPro's YouTube Page.

I ended up downloading the video and converting it from flash to AVI, since no embedding code was available. I'm assuming it's okay to put it here, on this blog, with attribution and a link-back since sharing (on YouTube) for this video was set on and encouraged. If I'm mistaken and this video is your property, please contact me (via the email link at the top right of every page) and I'll be happy to take it down and replace it with a blue hyperlink (Not quite as enticing, but probably more economical ;)

NOTE FOR FOLKS WITH VERY LITTLE TIME ON THEIR HANDS: The funniest part of this video starts about 3 minutes and 5 seconds into the playback. Listen for: "But, you may ask, when will I ever need to use a Unix system?" It's a scene from a blockbuster hollywood movie most of us probably remember (even if we don't want to ;) and is yet another illustration of why computer usage in films can make you nuts if you're unable to suspend your disbelief to the extreme ;)
