Eclectic And Funny Linux Pictures - Last Day Of Vacation

Hey there,

The last day of vacation is here. Tomorrow (assuming everything has gone to plan) I'll be back in town to either be pleasantly surprised or utterly horrified. And, of course, I'm talking about the blog... Nothing to do with my home life or job ;)

Hope you enjoy the pictures and I can't wait to get back and write something soon. Hopefully, I'll remember how to after going through my backlogged emails (work and play)

Cheers,

NOTE: All pictures are copywrite of their original creators.

Captain Underpants Name Changer

Hey there,

This has almost zero to do with Linux or Unix, so I'm not going to promote it, but I first ran into "Captain Underpants and the Perilous Plot of Professor Poopypants" sometime around 2000.

Brought to you by Pinky Lizardshorts

Back then, the infamous "name changer" email was going around. It was quite lengthy and included a manual process to find your "poopypants" name. I was surprised to actually find the name changer online. There are actually several versions, but this one adheres to the original rules (Some just have you enter your first and last names, but the original has you enter your first name, the first inital of your last name and the last letter of your last name in order to get your "poopypants" name).

Follow this link to the Professor Poopypants Name Change-O-Chart and enjoy an infantile laugh or two :)

Cheers :)

Funny Linux Picture - Strong Arming The Market

I spend entirely too much time working. Today from wakey-time to sleepy-time.

I found this picture over at linuxfooka and thought it was amusing :)

Enjoy - I need to go pass out... :P

Some Funny Linux/Computer Pictures

Here's wishing you all a wonderful Saturday,

I'm finishing up my on-call week this weekend (which is getting stretched an extra day so I can enjoy the Holiday and experience vague, yet gnawing, anxiety at the same time ;)

Actually, and unfortunately, the above statement is in the neighborhood of the truth. Our company actually has work planned for the Holiday :(

This is a theme I return to over and over again in this blog, because (I suppose) I'm old-fashioned and fear that I will never truly understand my generation's obsession with work as a substitute for virtually everything. I get that it's a lot easier to ignore society while we "get things done," but I'm thoroughly confused about the amount of perceived social anxiety in the world. Maybe all those pharmaceutical commercials are doing "their" job ;)

I say, save your work for when you have to be at work, and relax and enjoy yourself when you have the time off. My philosophy also includes a stipulation that one should go out and buy something (or at least browse) at a store every once in a while, happen upon some real people and maybe even talk to them (if it isn't a totally awkward situation ;) It's no lie that my daughter Instant Messages her closest friend all night (well before curfew) and her closest friend (no joke) lives across the parking lot from us. Her townhome's front door is, literally, 10 or 15 feet from our garage. ??? Am I nuts, or are we (as a people) facing massive global social retardation within a few generations?

Anyway, enough of the serious stuff. Below are a couple of pictures I found over at mahopa.de. They've got a ton more, although some may not be amusing at all. For instance, I don't get the first picture below (the caps-lock picture). Why is it funny? I have no idea. My mother is German (like the site, except human ;) and I still don't understand the joke. Thank God there's no one around for me to have to ask ;)

Cheers,

Hilarious Linux Mastercard Spoof T-Shirt

Hey There,

Well, this week is a wash. Still coming down from being sick and getting right back into the wacky SysAdmin work-week. Yesterday/today, I got to work until 5am and spent most of today semi-conscious.

This works out somewhat OK, though, since I'm finding a lot of funny stuff all over the net, like this Mastercard spoof tee shirt picture from ReviewSaurus

Hope this gives you at least a chuckle :)

Funny Or Die: Unix Trouble

Happy Day-Before-Easter :)

I found the following video on a site I'd never seen before called Funny Or Die which hosts a series by the name of "Yell For Help With Stewie Bronson."

If this doesn't make you laugh, you may be dead inside. Or, maybe it's not your sense of humor ;) Give it a shot and check it out. At worst, you'll die knowing that you wasted those entire five minutes :)

Cheers,

Funny Unix and Linux Quotes

Hey there,

Beginning another weekend of work (following a week of work, of course ;) I thought I'd inject some more humor into this blog (since I seem to be needing it more and more).

They say laughter is the best medicine. I'll cure whatever ails ya. Before this month is out, I expect to be the equivalent of a methadone program to wean myself off of the yuks ;)

Enjoy these quotes from Geek24.com and drop by their site for a visit. They have more there than just this portion of one page ;)

Cheers,

More Pictures Of Computer Disasters

Hey There,

That sad-but-maybe-funny post I promised for today will be arriving tomorrow. I ended up working until now, today (or tonight/tomorrow ;). Therefore it will be an even sadder post that I anticipated ;)

In the meantime, enjoy some more photos from all over the web :)

Cheers,

Where Have All The Funny Times Gone?

Hey there,

I almost can't wait until Monday to get back on the NetBackup horse and ride. I think Monday's post is going to be so seemingingly unbelievable that it will read like humor. In the meantime, I'll leave being funny to the funny people who collect funny cartoons at funnytimes.com ;)

Enjoy your Saturday. If your boss calls on that cell phone the company gave you that can get the Internet (and your email...), don't answer. Once it stops ringing, go put it in the back yard, near the chain-link fence. No signal means no explanations required ;)

Cheers, and enjoy the cartoons :)

Doctor Fun - More Linux And Unix Comic Humor

Hey There,

Here's another great site I never knew existed. Lots of funny cartoons going by the name of "Dr. Fun"

Unfortunately, the series ended in 2006, but (fortunately) it's still being hosted at ibiblio.org so you can read every single one of them :)

I've included a few of my favorites. One from each year; starting at the end, in 2006, until 1997 which wasn't the last year, but has made this post incredibly long (...as if that's ever been a concern ;)

In all honestly, I think I just got tired of the workplace perversion of "cut and paste" ("cut and paste and pretend to be contemplating a sound technological and fiscal solution to whatever the current problem is"" ;)

Cheers!

Top 10 Linux Crashes - And Pictures Of them

Hey there,

Once again work interferes with my plans for world domination and I have to splash around outside the local watering hole to find material ;)

As today's title suggests, I went out and found some interesting pictures in an online post called the "Linux Crash Top 10 Pictures." It's apparently an answer to some sort of backlash of Windows users who take their Operating System so seriously that they actually managed to come together and whine in unison; in numbers so staggering that someone felt the need to listen and respond ;) Actually it's a pretty interesting and low-key post. Check it out for the rest of the pictures. I've included my favorites below.

You may note that most of them aren't really "crashes." But, each one does link back to the original site (if those two things can be directly related ?? ;)

Enjoy!

Unix and Linux Humor: RTFM Man Page

Hey there,

As I prepare for another fun-filled weekend of taking over-the-counter stimulants (to enhance the effects of the caffeine and nicotine already in my system ;) and working from 8am until 4 in the morning the next day, I thought I'd go out and find some more funny stuff on the net.

Today, I happened upon jaegers.net's Unix and Linux humor page, which is packed with goodies. Go check it out. They've got everything from a few fake man pages you may not have seen yet (I opted not to go with the Knife man page, although I liked the description of the Sysadmin Network Interrupt Protocol (SNIP) ;) to jokes and even pictures that don't require words to understand. And that's just part of the site. I'll be checking more of it out later, since they have multiple humor sections and I like to laugh at anything funny (no matter who's feeling's get hurt; even if they're my own ;)

Enjoy this man-page-usage man page. Read The Fine Manual, I believe it stands for. Or some fuckin' thing like that ;)

Cheers,

The man page below can be found, in its original context, online at jaegers.net

Another Linux/Unix Flash Movie. Still Funny?

Hey there, Another rough night fuggling with VCS - That'll be my next post. Tonight, I'm going to tap a brain cell and leak whatever's left of it down the drain ;) Enjoy this little animation from ubergeek.tv. I know it's dated, which is why it caught my attention (lots of flames out there). I figure anything that upsets so many people so deeply "needs" to be on this blog at least once ;) Cheers,

Linux T-Shirts. For Sale?

Hey there,

Back from sleeping about 16 or 17 hours in a row. Beginning to think that, maybe, I should have just let this blog go for the weekend. But, since I'm obsessive compulsive regarding our almost year-and-a-half streak of one-post-per-day, at least I got something posted each night. And this Monday, although this post is dated Tuesday, I'm doing it again. Not too much going on today in the semi-conscious morass that's sploshing around between my ears ;)

I forgot about the hangover you get by sleeping way too much. By tomorrow, I should be back to normal. It's strange to think that I've been doing this for over a decade. It's a good way to ensure employment during harsh times, but I often wonder if sleep-deprivation, followed by sleep-overload, will have any long term side effects. Actually, if I were to drop dead today, I think I would actually have lived more days (defined as 16 hours of waketime during which things get accomplished) than most people in my generation. So, if I die early, I'll actually be just the right age ;)

Hope you enjoy these (sometimes) funny tee shirts I found over at zazzle.com. They've got more pages filled with these things than I could afford to look through, so it's worth checking out.

Cheers, and here's to regular sleep (at least for a few weeks ;),

Click on any of the pictures below to watch them leap off the screen! ;)
